ELECTION NIGHT 2020
It’s not a typical Election Night, but in the United States it is traditional to host an Election Night Party at home or at a bar. How else could we spend this night waiting for our fate to be sealed?

American director Julia Hart and a cast of US citizens invite you to spend Election Night with them.

“Election Night” is a performance, Election Night party, and a trip through time. With a mix of personal stories, scenes, and songs Julia Hart and her ensemble of Americans abroad reflect the most significant moments, impressions, and feelings from the last four years while the latest election results and forecasts come together.

TWITTERSTORM BUSTERS
A presentation of experimental research

Media artist duo IRIS-A-MAZ join forces with director Julia Hart to observe, analyse, and re-stage the phenomena of Twitterstorms. The rehearsal stage is transformed into a theatrical echo chambers where hashtags, memes, tweets, and twitter bots meet and collide. “Twitterstorm Busters” grapples with Germany’s biggest Twitterstorms and struggles to make sense of out their chaotic feedback loops and comment battles.

We invite audiences to experience highlights of our research live from the eye of the Twitterstorm.

Performance Action Against Coal in Berlin:

In front of the Federal Chancellery in Berlin about 60 Greenpeace activists are reminding the German Government to quickly implement the compromise of the coal commission. Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) will receive the final report of the coal commission later on this day. In the one hour long performance under the direction of a theater director Julia Hart, Greenpeace activists dressed in pink perform a symbolic exiting from coal.

Performance Action for Clean Air in Stuttgart:

For clean breathing air in cities, 40 Greenpeace activists are demonstrating on Germany's dirtiest traffic intersection, the "Neckartor" in Stuttgart. In white full-body suits, so-called Morphsuits, they are imitating a group of people with respiratory diseases. The refugees are coughing and struggling for air in this choreographed performance until they finally receive oxygen masks, with which they can breathe again. The activists are holding signs saying "Clean air is our right!" and "Let us breathe!".

With this performance protest Greenpeace was drawing attention on the expected verdict of the Federal Administrative Court on possible driving prohibitions for diesel cars.

MESSAGE TO THE UNIVERSE
A space mission to big thoughts and beyond / Age 7+

Humans, animals and plants contain some of secrets to life on earth. Yet how can we explain who we are and how we live to life forms in outspace who have never set foot on Earth? The astronauts Captain Kemal, Lillith, and Sjut are on a mission to research the biggest questions of humankind: How are humans really different from ants? Do stones have feelings? How did the first humans get here? As experts from Planet Earth, the audience is invited to help the astronauts send the most important pieces of evidence about humankind into outer space. Do you think we'll receive an answer?

Reviews:

"During the premiere, the actors had to be on their game and improvise. That and the stage design by Iris Holstein with a loving eye for detail were cause for amazement. Decisions had to be made again and again as the audience and the handbook helped the astronauts.. This participatory production was a lot of fun for children age seven, but also gave the adults some unexpected insights who will never see their vacuum the same way again. Mission Accomplished. Message to the Universe landed spot-on." (Nordsee-Zeitung, Ulrich Müller, 11.04.2016)

I AM HERE DOCTOR FAUSTUS
I Am Here Doctor Faustus – inspired by Gertrude Stein’s play "Doctor Faustus Lights the Lights"

Gertrude Stein strove to show things for what they are. She wanted to free language and objects from logic, memory, and grammar. In order to see things in a new way, we watch how they emerge in the act of speaking. Language infiltrates into all of our senses as Stein keeps us pinned in the present moment.

With Marguerite Ida and Helena Annabel Stein created a female character that embodies various fantasies and preconceived notions. She doesn’t cave in to Doctor Faustus, as the stories usually goes. She can be everything and anything. She changes back and forth between enjoying her self-staging and fearing the emptiness that lingers behind her self-created images.

Three performers dive into Stein’s challenging language, sifting through scenarios and flimsy identities for a way to quench their longing to be one-of-a-kind.

PORNOGRAPHY
„I was haunted by what the bombers were going through on that final day. It struck me that at the heart of their action was an alienation from the people they were going to kill and from themselves. This seemed to be symptomatic of a consumerist culture, which objectifies everyone and everything.“ -- Simon Stephens

2005.
A hot week in July.
A man sits in the subway. A bomb in his backpack.
Two sisters fall in love with each other.
An old woman wanders through downtown.
Four people. One and the same urge: to rebel against the routine of daily life and against the rules of conduct.
People who are driven by a longing to be touched,
who want to tell their story,
and who are searching for what it means to be alive.

Pornography premiered in April 2010 at the Theaterakademie Hamburg.

COFFIN SISTERS
I am Bevil. – And I am Yevil. – Our job is quite simple: Bodies in sacks.

A majestic bird glides across the horizon. The ocean lies behind him. The coast lies ahead. This is no man’s land. His eyes fixate on an object and he nears his prey. He opens his mouth and snaps it shut.
Enter the world of the Coffin Sisters: Bevil and Yevil. They do the same work-- day in, day out: packing lifeless bodies into sacks, into their last resting place, into the eternity of the ocean. Feelings are forbidden. No turns allowed. The only have each other.
Everything changes when the Bruised Man appears one day. He cracks open the dark cage of routine the twin sisters built for themselves. Yevil falls in love.

Pleaching the Coffin Sisters is a powerful plea for taking risks to follow our hearts. Anton Dudley attests to the strength of emotions in a time of cold rationality. Three German actors and an American director search for that thing that we are all looking for: the simple joy of being human.

Performed April 27-28th 2008 at Haus 73 in Hamburg.

FRIEND CONTROLLER
Friend Controller is broken! Everything is hissing and blinking. The graphics are completely messed up and parts of the game are entirely missing. If the game isn’t immediately repaired, the game will delete itself. The avatars Issy and Bobbi need your help! They know the game inside and out, but they don’t know much about friendship. What is friendship? And what does pizza have to do with anything?

Issy and Bobbi only have a little bit of time until everything is destroyed and they both disappear forever. Together with Issy and Bobbi you will solve puzzles, sort out thoughts and collect friendship symbols. Will you manage to repair the levels on time?

The text adventure game FRIEND CONTROLLER is inspired by the recent theater production FRIEND SIMULATOR from the theater collective “Show and Tell”. Both projects are based on the method of creatively philosophising about friendship with youth and are also based media awareness workshops about games. Students from the Max Brauer School, the Gymnasium Dörpsweg and the Elbschule Center for Education, Hearing and Communication in Hamburg participated in these workshops.

FRIEND CONTROLLER is in the German language and free of cost: www.friend-controller.de

Friend Controller was made possible with funds from Fonds Darstellende Künste aus Mitteln der Beauftragten der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien.
